Carrtoons and Korvpressor
Retro-Inspired Sound and Compressed Bass Lines 🥂
Meet Ben Carr, better known as Carrtoons, a bass virtuoso and friend of ours. Growing up in Beacon, NY Ben has transformed his love for music into a dynamic career both as a solo artist, composer and producer/bassist. His portfolio includes collaborations with pivotal names across genres, from Usher to Freddie Gibbs, Roy Ayers, and recently drummer Nate Smith....
Retro-Inspired Sound and Compressed Bass Lines
We first discovered Ben on social media and after connecting with him we were thrilled to learn that our smart compressor, Korvpressor, is his go-to choice for compression in his productions.
I mostly use Korvpressor for parallel compression on bass, drums, and vocals. It really works wonders on anything though, and the visual aspect makes a lot of sense to me. I use Korvpressor partly because of how quick the work flow is, and partly because of the built in EQ. Very easy to dial in super precise, high quality sounds.

It’s been a joy watching Carrtoons’ rise through his vibrant social media presence and collaborations, as well as his recent live performance on the NPR Tiny Desk Concert - a popular video series showcasing live performances hosted by NPR Music at the desk of former All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen
Carrtoons: Tiny Desk Concert
Carr’s retro-inspired sound and collaborative approach to music shine through in all his musical endeavors. When we asked him about his philosophy on music and advice for up-and-coming producers, he shared this tip:
I think the most important thing is to work on your craft consistently, and maintain a child-like joy during the process.
