See Dirty Loops Jonah Nilsson play Elpiano!

A really nice guy playing a really nice electric piano plugin

Few musicians manage to blend technical brilliance with pure joy the way Jonah Nilsson does. As the front figure of Dirty Loops, he’s taken jazz-fusion from rehearsal rooms to arenas worldwide, winning fans across genres and generations. Now back in Sweden, Jonah reconnects with old friends at Klevgrand to explore new sounds, share some fika, and of course put our latest instrument, Elpiano, to the test.

Reunited over fika

Jonah is the front figure of Dirty Loops, who probably needs no introduction but here we go anyway; Dirty Loops – the phenomenon that went viral on YouTube and now tours the world. A unique blend of jazz, funk, gospel, pop, and electronic influences has made them international favourites, not least thanks to their jazz-fusion covers of pop hits like Baby (Justin Bieber), Rolling in the Deep (Adele), and Wake Me Up (Avicii). And Jonah, have worked together with some of most renowned producers in the world like Quincy Jones, who once said this about him: “What a talent! He's got the left brain skills from being trained in the conservatory and the right brain from his DNA!”

For Klevgranders, there’s a long somewhat shared history with Dirty Loops. Many in the Klevgrand team studied alongside these superstars at the Royal college of music in Stockholm, but our paths actually crossed much earlier than that. Over 20 years ago, Tobias (now CEO at Klevgrand) and Jonah were performing, and even dancing, on stage together in Uppsala.

So when Jonah recently decided to move back to Sweden after years abroad, it felt only natural to meet up again, grab a fika*, and brainstorm production ideas like the old days.

* Fika is a concept, a state of mind, an attitude and an important part of Swedish culture. It means making time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat.

Jonah goes Elpiano

During the later stages of Elpiano’s development, Jonah gave helpful feedback, tested and helped us shaping our plugin Elpiano into a product that felt playful and truly inspiring to interact with.

So once the final product was released we brought Elpiano and a film camera over to capture Jonah’s first reaction of the plugin in his family home, just a 20-minute walk from Klevgrand HQ,. The house, with painted ceilings dating back to the 1400s, was the perfect contrast: a digital recreation of classic electric pianos from the 1960s, tested in a historical space from the 1460s. :)

Here’s the video from our visit ..Enjoy!

What’s next for Jonah? From touring to film scores

Beyond talking Elpiano and various nostalgic topics and memories with Tobias, Jonah is currently working on various projects, outside of Dirty Loops. Amongst other things he’s now found a passion for writing music for the big screen , including the soundtrack for an upcoming feature film premiering later this year…
