Klevgrand and Wintergatan’s collaboration begun years back when we met in our love for the craft of creating new things and our passion for creating music. The result of our weekly talks and numerous Swedish fika* resulted in the product Speldosa – Music Box, that was released 2023. We really feel that Speldosa reflects Wintergatan’s approach to engineering — being as precise as it is beautiful.

*Fika: There are no rules in what you have for fika, as long as there's something to eat and drink, that is less than a meal but more than a fruit. The only rule that applies is: don't say fika when you only mean a coffee. If you just want to grab a coffee with someone, simply say ”Let's have a coffee!” ☕️

In this new update of Speldosa v1.0.3 , we’ve added damping possibilites to provide even more tonal variations and to enhance playability even more. The popularity of Speldosa truly proves that there’s something uniquely special about the sound of this music box. Its sounds never fail to fascinate, and now, thanks to this update, we’ve made it even more flexible—making it even more useful in a variety of musical contexts.

Have you missed the Speldosa magic?
Speldosa (Swedish for “Music Box”) was first released in March 2023 and become a real hit. The product is inspired by the joint vision between Klevgrand and Wintergatan that a simple melody played on a music box can hold as much emotional power as any symphonic work. The instrument itself has been meticulously recorded by Wintergatan and transformed into a playable digital instrument plug-in.
The Speldosa Music Box sound has been the sonic signature of two of Martin Molins bands, Detektivbyrån and Wintergatan, both recognized for their unique sound.
The sounds in Speldosa have been the secret sauce in my music career and I hope other musicians find it as useful as I have. There is a special quality to this exact music box sound that lifts it above the novelty feeling of a toy and turns it into a real music instrument. It just sounds so good haha, that's really it. And it is a sound that makes you write music instantly – the music comes from the sound itself. During this collaboration, when Klevgrand sent me the first beta version of the plugin, I ended up playing around with the sound for three hours, losing track of time. I wrote three songs. One of them, “Stjärnfall” will be released at product launch. I was scheduled to do something else that day but the sound kept me playing. That’s what Speldosa does to me, and I think it will do the same for others.
